PARIS--Train passengers traveling to Paris from London will soon have
access to second-generation and 3G mobile telephone services in the
channel tunnel, Groupe Eurotunnel SA (GET.FR) said Thursday.
Eurotunnel has signed a contract with mobile telephone operators
Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.LN) and EE, owned by Orange Telecom (ORA.FR) and
T-Mobile, to offer the service to users of the southbound tunnel.
The telecom companies intend to offer 4G data services in the future, Eurotunnel said in a statement.
Passengers traveling from France to the U.K. already have the use of
mobile telecom services after the tunnel operator signed a similar deal
with Orange, Bouygues's telecom unit, and SFR, the telecom unit of
Vivendi SA, in 2012.
